It should have been their mother’s night.
But following Whitney Houston’s untimely death it was down to her daughter Bobbi Kristina and ‘adopted son’ Nick Gordon to take her place at the premiere on Sparkle tonight.
And it was as boyfriend and girlfriend that the pair walked the red carpet, following their coming out as a couple in the months since their mother’s death.
Bobbi, 19, showed her curves in a clinging bandage dress, teamed with feathered stilettos. Her flawless red carpet look was completed by her mother’s diamond ring on her hand.
Nick, 22, wore a sharp black suit, teamed with a diamond stud in his ear and a red handkerchief.
He escorted his ‘sister’ down the red carpet.
Bobbi and Nick lived together as brother and sister for more than a decade before their mother’s death. Whitney took Nick into her home at the age of 12 when his father went to prison and his mother was unable to take care of him.
Nick was the singing superstar’s unofficially adopted son, and she treated him like family up until her death at the age of 48 due to an accidental drowning complicated by heart disease and cocaine use.
Houston, a prestigious six-time Grammy award winning singer, was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room on February 11, 2012.
Nick first fueled rumours about their relationship status in a tweet written in March, exclaiming: ‘Yea we got a little closer and what!!!’
The controversial couple have reportedly been sharing her $1.2million Atlanta home together ever since.
‘No matter what…This connection between us will #STAYSTRONG 4EVER! We will love & miss u 4ever lady:)’ Kristina wrote this week, adding, ‘& still through those trials & tribulations the devil kept on trying to break them & soon realized…He couldn’t.’
By the age of 30 Bobbi will have inherited everything that belonged to her iconic mother – mansions, jewellery, cars, and an extraordinary fortune.
She recently did a guest stint on Tyler Perry’s sitcom For Better Or Worse.
And the mourning starlet is currently filming her blooming love for Gordon on her upcoming reality show, The Houston Family Chronicles, which is set to premiere on Lifetime next month.
Whitney stars as Emma, the mother of Sparkle Anderson, played by Jordin Sparks, and her two sisters who are trying to make it as a motown girlband in the remake of the 1976 movie-musical.
The darker aspects of the story reminded Whitney of her own troubled life, according to Carmen Ejog, who plays troubled Tammy ‘Sister’ Anderson.
‘Sister really takes like a crazy journey and Whitney was very aware of that story line being very parallel to her own, and I think it’s to her credit that she was excited to bring a message that was as dark as it was light, and was not scared of doing that,’ Carmen told MTV News.
‘If she was here right now she’d be talking about those parallels without any shame and with the sense of giving to us as an audience, as like the receiving of this movie and this story.
‘When you get to that level you could just be guarded and just keep so many things to yourself and she just wasn’t that person.
‘”Learn from me, learn from this cautionary tale,” is literally what she says in the movie, and that’s amazing.’
Also at tonight’s premiere was Whitney’s grieving mother Cissy and her boyfriend Ray J, who she was dating at the time of her death.
